Good to know before you paddle out.
Where do I start if I’ve never surfed?
Start with an instructor. Tell them your swimming ability, experience and comfort in the ocean so they can choose an appropriate location and lesson. A familiar beach name is no guarantee of safe conditions.
Should I rent a board or book a lesson?
If you’re new to surfing, a lesson gives you help with equipment, ocean awareness and surf etiquette. If you’re renting, ask the shop which board suits your experience and the current conditions.
How much should I budget?
Prices and inclusions vary. Follow the official business link and ask about lesson length, group size, transport, equipment and cancellation terms. We don’t publish prices we can’t source reliably.
How should I choose a coast?
Use the region picker to find nearby businesses, then check current ocean information and ask an instructor or lifeguard. Respect posted warnings, give others space and stay on shore when conditions exceed your ability.
